District Attorney Terence Hallinan
Welcome to the Victim Services Unit of the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office – the compassionate side of the criminal justice system.
Innocent victims of crime in San Francisco – and San Francisco residents who are victimized in other jurisdictions – are eligible to receive various forms of support from our office. Whether or not they have a pending case, individuals can get counseling, advocacy, and financial aid as needed to help stabilize lives that have been disrupted by crime.
The SFDA Victim Services Unit was launched in 1977 with four advocates. In recent years it has become an essential component of the office. Today the program has a staff of 26, including culturally and linguistically diverse advocates and claims specialist. In the year 2000, the Victim Services Unit helped more than 5,000 individuals.
