How We Can help

Victim Services was established to provide advocacy and support to victims of crime in the City and County of San Francisco. Victim Services provides and/or arranges for comprehensive services for crime victims. As our mission states, “…we strive to make the criminal justice system humane and accessible…”

Victim Services provides information and referral services, crisis intervention, emergency assistance, court support, information and assistance for victims of violent crime. In addition, program staff assist eligible victims in filing for compensation of out-of-pocket expenses related to medical and counseling expenditures, lost income, or funeral expenses that were incurred as a result of the crime.

Our services are available to victims of crime regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religious affiliation.

There is never a fee for our services and all of our services are confidential.

Victim of a Crime

The goal of the advocacy unit is to assist victims of crime and victim’s families in overcoming the physical, emotional, and financial impact of crime on their lives. The advocates either provide or arrange for comprehensive services as outlined in Penal Code section 13835. The majority of the unit’s referrals come from the Police Department through police reports. The Victim Witness Assistance Program responds to every report that they receive from the Police Department. It is not necessary for an arrest and prosecution to take place in order for The Victim Witness Assistance Program to provide services. Victim Services also provides referrals to other community resources.
